D-50 for V-Synth/VariOS

Q.What kind of synthesizer is the D-50?

A.The D-50 was Roland’s first all-digital synthesizer equipped with the LA sound source (Linear Arithmetic Synthesis). It first came to market in 1987, and completed its production in 1992.

The D-50 was a smash hit in sales because of its original sound. Represented by distinctive patches such as “Fantasia” and “Digital Native Dance,” it stood apart from other synthesizers. The sound of the D-50 was the result of the technological fusion of PCM and subtractive synthesis. It is now recognized as a classic synthesizer, one that set the ball rolling for the birth of the digital synthesizer age.
