Q.How does the V-Accordion’s playing feel compare to that of a conventional acoustic accordion?

A.Just like a conventional acoustic accordion, the V-Accordion faithfully reproduces the changes in volume, variations in tone, and expressive nuance that occurs in response to the movement of the bellows. However, since it does not incorporate reeds or other mechanical components to produce sounds, nor a valve mechanism that opens or closes the air passageways, the V-Accordion's bellows movement "feels" a little different when compared to that of an acoustic accordion.

When you play an acoustic accordion, the bellows' response is determined by the following mechanical conditions: the number of reeds that sound, the number of keys that are pressed simultaneously, and the number of left-hand buttons. As such, the playing feel will constantly vary depending on these conditions. Since the V-Accordion generates sound electronically, it is not subject to such response variations. Therefore, its bellows movement and response is consistent, no matter what sound you’re playing.

At first, this difference may feel slightly strange and unnatural, especially if you've been playing the acoustic accordion for many years. In a short time, however, you'll get used to the V-Accordion's bellows action and playing feel. Straight away, you'll find the stable bellows movement can be an advantage by allowing you to play long tones or many loud notes without reversing the bellows.

Different accordion-type instruments feature a variety of mechanical structures, and each has its own unique bellows response. If you are an experienced player who has played a variety of bellows instruments, you will quickly become accustomed to the V-Accordion, and simply regard it as another variation on bellows-type instruments.
