This program is used to update the VR-09 system software to the most recent version.

How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your VR-09.
  1. While holding down [ EXIT ], turn power ON.
    * Continue holding down [ EXIT ] until the version information appears on the display.
  2. The version will be displayed at the Display.
  3. Turn power OFF.
* If this shows the latest version, there’s no need to update your VR-09.

  • The sound that is being sounded does not stop when the Sound or the Registration is switched.
    The Effects after switching will be applied.
  • The octave setting to Organ Sound is enabled.
    ( Refer to "Raising or Lowering the Range in Octaves (Octave)")
  • Parts to which the Expression Pedal effect will be applied can be selected.
    ( Refer to "Selecting the Part(s) Affected by the Expression Pedal (Expression Part)")
  • JUPITER-50/80 and ATELIER Series Solo Mode were added. When Dual is selected, the highest key in the keyboards of the part 2 will be sounded.

  • The setting that disables the Rotary Effect operation by the Pitch bend/Modulation lever in the Organ Sound was added. This prevents misoperations during live performances.

  • The Registration set of the ATELIER Series can be read. In addition, by turning on the ATELIER Mode, you can experience the feeling of performing in an ATELIER.

  • The sounds of the keyboard performance part can be changed from MIDI IN using the Program Change and the Bank Select.
  • The Control Change 7 and 11 from MIDI IN in the Organ Sound can be received.

What you will need to update your VR-09
  • VR-09
  • USB Memory ( Roland's M-UF2G is recommended )
    * The USB Memory need to be formatted on a VR-09.
  • A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, Mac )

Cautions with the update
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the VR-09. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your VR-09 while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the VR-09 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "vr09_sys_v103.zip" file on your computer to get the update files in the "vr09_sys_v103" folder.

Procedure for the update
Please refer to the following procedure to install the extracted system program to your VR-09.

Formatting USB Memory
* When you format a USB memory, all data stored in it will be erased.
  1. Turn on VR-09.
  2. Connect a USB memory to the "USB MEMORY port".
  3. Press the [ MENU ] button.
  4. Use the [ VALUE ] dial to select "Media Utility." And then press the [ ENTER ] button.
  5. Use the [ CURSOR ] buttons to select "Format USB." And then press the [ ENTER ] button.
  6. "Format Sure?" will appear in the display.
    Press [ ENTER ] button. "Executing..." will appear in the display, and it will start to initialize the USB memory.
    * Press [ EXIT ] to cancel the initialization process.
    * While the "Executing..." is displayed, you must not disconnect a USB memory or turn the power off.
  7. The displayed message "Executing..." is cleared when the USB memory initialization has completed.
    Turn off VR-09 and then disconnect the USB memory.
Creating the USB memory for update
  1. Connect the USB memory to the USB connector of your computer.
  2. Copy the extracted "_R053_VR09" folder in the above to the root folder of the USB memory.
    * Copy not each content in the "_R053_VR09" folder, but the entire folder.
  3. Disconnect the USB memory from your computer as follows.
    [ Windows ]
    Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to un-mount the USB memory. And then disconnect the USB memory from your computer.
    [ Mac ]
    Drag the Drive icon of the USB memory into the trash in the dock. And then remove the USB memory from your computer.
Update Procedure

Never power-off your VR-09 while the update is in progress!

  1. Leaving the power to the VR-09 switched off; connect the USB Memory to the "USB MEMORY port".
  2. Hold down the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] and ROTARY SOUND [ FAST/SLOW ] button and turn on VR-09.
    The update process starts with displaying on the screen the repeatedly as follows.
    * The indicator of the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] button will be blinking slowly on updating.
    * You will take about thirty minutes to update.
  3. When the update completes, the message "Finished." will appear on the display.
    Then, the indicators of the ROTARY SOUND [ ON/OFF ] and ROTARY SOUND [ FAST/SLOW ] buttons will be blinking quickly.
    Turn off the power of VR-09 after confirming the update completion.
  4. Detach the USB Memory and switch off the power to the unit.
