System ProgramFP-4F System Program Version 1.02

This system program updates your FP-4F to the latest version 1.02.


How to know the version
Before you start, check the system program version of your FP-4F.
  1. Hold down [ + ] and [ - ] and switch on the power to the unit.
    The version information screen appears.
    If this shows the latest version (version 1.02 or later), there’s no need to update your FP-4F.
  2. After verifying the displayed version, switch off the power.

Update history
[ Ver.1.02 ]
The following bug is fixed.
  • It might change to an unintended volume infrequently when you pedal your piano quickly with setting the SOFT/L (FC1) connector or the SOSTENUTO/C (FC2) connector to [Bend Up] or [Bend Down].
[ Ver.1.01 ]
  • Bug fix: When using an Expression pedal, the sound might change into unintended volume infrequently.
  • It keeps the volume (Expression pedal value) when switching between Registrations assigned the pedal as "Expression."

What you will need to update your FP-4F
  • FP-4F
  • USB Memory ( Roland's M-UF2G is recommended )
    * The USB Memory need to be formatted on a FP-4F.
  • A computer with a USB connector (Windows, Mac)

Cautions with the update
  • We recommend that you save your user data to a USB memory before you perform the update. If a problem occurs and your user data is lost, you will be able to restore the original state by reloading the data you saved. For details on the procedure, refer to the following sections of the Owner's Manual.
    • Settings Stored Immediately When Edited (Refer to the owner's manual to make a note of the settings.)
    • Saving a Memory Backup (Refer to the owner's manual to make a note of the settings.)
    • Saving a Registration (What is a Registration?)
    • Copying a Song (SONG Copy)
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the FP-4F. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your FP-4F while the update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the FP-4F won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded “fp4f_sys_v102.zip” file on your computer to get the update files in the “R027_FP4F” folder.

Procedure for the update
Please refer to the following procedure to install the extracted system program to your FP-4F.

Formatting USB Memory
* When you format a USB memory, all data stored in it will be erased.
  1. Turn on FP-4F.
  2. Connect a USB memory to the "EXT MEMORY" connector.
  3. Hold down the [ REVERB ] button and press the [ EQUALIZER ] button.
    You'll enter function mode.
  4. Use the [-] [+] buttons to select "FORMAT." And then press the [DISPLAY] button.
  5. Use the [-] [+] buttons to select "EXT." And then press the [PIANO] button.
  6. "SURE?" will appear in the display.
    Press TEMPO [+] button. The display will blink, and it will start to initialize the USB memory.

    * Press TEMPO [-] to cancel the initialization process.
    * Never do the following operations while the display is blinking.

    • Turning off the power
    • Disconnecting the USB
  7. When the initialization completes, the display will be changed from blinking to lighting.
    Turn off FP-4F and then disconnect the USB memory.
Creating the USB memory for update
  1. Connect the USB memory to the USB connector of your computer.
  2. Copy the extracted "R027_FP4F" folder in the above to the root folder of the USB memory.
    * Copy not each content in the "R027_FP4F" folder, but the entire folder.
  3. Disconnect the USB memory from your computer as follows.

    [ Windows ]
    Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to un-mount the USB memory. And then disconnect the USB memory from your computer.

    [ Mac ]
    Drag the Drive icon of the USB memory into the trash in the dock. And then remove the USB memory from your computer.
Update Procedure

Never power-off your FP-4F while the update is in progress!

  1. Leaving the power to the FP-4F switched off; connect the USB Memory to the EXT MEMORY port.
  2. Hold down the [REC] button and turn on FP-4F.
    The "LOADING" is displayed on the screen with holding down the [REC] button about eight seconds, and then release your finger from it.
    After a while, the update process starts with displaying on the screen repeatedly as follows.
    "88888888" → "--------" → "________" → "........"
  3. When the update processing is completed, the "COMPLETE" message will be displayed. Then turn off FP-4F.
    * You will take about one to two minutes to update.
  4. Detach the USB Memory and switch off the power to the unit.
